Welcome to Dojo U! If you're just stumbling across us now as a beginner - you have no idea how lucky you are! (They didn't have Dojo U when I was first starting out). Let's keep things short and sweet - what do you do to get started at Dojo U as a beginning piper?

Step 1: Total Beginner? Grab a Practice Chanter!

GibsonRegPracticeChanterIf you're brand new to the bagpipes, fear not! Dojo U can literally take you from total zero, all the way to bagpipe hero!

The one thing you will need before you can get started learning the pipes is a practice chanter (the instrument that we use to learn the basic fingerwork of the bagpipes). Click here now to view our line of practice chanters. Not sure which one to buy? Just shoot our support team an email with any questions.

Step 2: Time to Check Out the Dojo Tutor

BAEYS Tutor BoxOur "Bagpipe as an Extension of your Self" Tutor (v2) is designed from the ground up by us, making it (we believe) the very best bagpipe tutor in the world! You can access it any time as as Basic or Premium Member, or you can purchase it as a stand-alone product.

From any device, at any time, learn all of the basics of bagpipe fingerwork here at Dojo U. You can navigate to it quickly and easily using the navigation menu at the top of the site.

Step 3: Attend our "Beginner's Hour" Live Classes

As you can see by clicking the schedule link here, we'll now be offering beginner's classes at 8:30AM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. Also, we'll do an evening session Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with new guest instructor Andy Fusco.

During beginner's classes, we'll be focusing on material from our acclaimed Dojo U Tutor system. Each class will start with some material from Chapters 1 and 2, and then we'll finish each lesson with material from Chapters 3 and 4.

We'll look at material, and then ask you to open up your microphone and play for feedback! If you're nervous, you can always just watch the first few times, but in the long run this will be your perfect opportunity to get regular, recurring feedback on your playing and development as a bagpiper!

If you're already a member, simply check the schedule to find times that work for you by clicking here now.

If you're not a member yet, click here to sign up for either a Basic or a Premium Membership and you'll have access to our live classes within minutes!!!

Step 4: Transition to the Bagpipes

Also included in Basic and Premium Memberships (or as a standalone product) is our "Transitioning to the Bagpipes" course. Once you've gotten through Chapter 3 of the tutor, it's probably about time to start to think about making the leap to the full instrument!

From any device, at any time, learn all of the basics of bagpipe sound and mechanics. You can navigate to it quickly and easily using the navigation menu at the top of the site.

As You Go: Immerse Yourself

Dojo U ScreenshotAs you are going through the rigorous process of learning the basics of the bagpipes, there's another thing you have to consider: Immersion into this great music and culture is going to prove a vital element of the learning process. Just as no man is an island, no man (or woman!) has ever become a piper by studying the "text" alone. You're also going to soak up every little bit of info about this amazing art form as you can.

The cool thing about this? Dojo U is a 360 degree learning platform for pipers of all levels and stages. Keep an eye on the new content as it comes out (literally) on a daily basis! Preview stuff that's too advanced for you. Push yourself to learn as much as you can. Interact with us on Facebook. Ask questions. Submit your playing for critique -- immerse yourself!
