Short Note Fusion - When a 'Cut' Note Precedes an Embellishment
Short-note fusion refers to when a 'cut' (ASAP) note precedes an embellishment. Because the cut note and the melody notes inside the embellishment are technically all the same super-short length, they must be played as a single 'compound' unit.
This might indeed be the 'trickiest' of bagpipe fingerwork fundamentals, but it's essential to achieving “lift” or “expression” in marches, strathspeys, reels, dot-cut horn pipes, and even some slow airs.
