Blades (of a chanter reed)

The blades of a pipe chanter reed (or a practice chanter reed) are the two pieces of cane, exactly symmetrical, that produce the vibration of the reed. They are placed around the staple of the reed, and bound together by the binding of the reed. Note: Don't use the term "blade" when talking about drone reeds. In that case, the vibrating object is called the "tongue."

Andrew Douglas Andrew is a prolific practitioner of the bagpipe, having been active at the highest level of pipe bands, solo competition, teaching, and creative endeavors for the past 20 years. He's also the founder and creator of Dojo U and of PipersDojo.com
