A musical note (like a bagpipe drone-note or chanter-note) is perceived as one sound, but quality or timbre of that sound is actually a result of the relative strengths of the individual partials that come together to create the sound. "Harmonics" or "Overtones" refer to these partials. The more partials exist in a bagpipe note, the "richer" and "more harmonic" a note will sound to the ear.
