We're thrilled to announce a workshop with Andrew Douglas in Las Vegas, Nevada at the end of September, 2016! This workshop is designed to really get you geared up for the upcoming season of bagpiping. We're going to drill down into the "Terrible Two" things you need to do to get your playing to the next level over the upcoming off-season.
The Terrible Two Workshop
Have you been asking the right questions? (There are only two).
As we all swirl in the never-ending slew of pipe band ideas, theories, methods, concepts, etc., it’s all too easy to take our eye off the ball. What is the true priority when it comes to real development?
That individuals need to develop real control over their fingerwork elements and of their instrument.
In a two part workshop, Andrew will highlight the “terrible two” things that bands need to focus on first and foremost, in order to leverage true musical control by individuals, thereby greatly magnifying the quality of your performance.
Part 1: Fingerwork Control
In part one, we’ll focus our fingerwork efforts so that individuals can develop a simple game plan to improve their quality of play.
- Mini-Lecture on fingerwork control.
- Implementation; playing around the table illustrating the key concepts
- Action Steps: What can our group do to follow through on these concepts to make the band better?
Part 2: Instrument control
In part two, we’ll discuss instrument control, and how individuals learning control is the secret to the band’s tonal success.
- Mini-Lecture/demonstration of developing instrument control.
- Implementation; showing each individual how to implement the concepts
- Acton Steps: What can the group do to follow through on these concepts to make the band better?
Now let's get into the specifics of the workshop so that you know what'll be happening logistically throughout the weekend:
Part 1 of the workshop will be held Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 5:30pm Vegas-time (We'll start at 6pm sharp!). We've changed this a bit in order to allow more time to do things.
Part 2 of the workshop will be held Saturday, October 1st, 2016 at approximately 9am Vegas-time. The workshop will end sharply at 1pm so we want to make sure to maximize the time we have together!
The Workshop will be held here:
Clark County Fire Training Center
4425 W Tropicana Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89103
The workshop is taught by Dojo U's very own Andrew Douglas. Andrew is a prolific practitioner of the bagpipe, having been active at the highest level of pipe bands, solo competition, teaching, and creative endeavors for the past 20 years. He's also the founder and creator of Dojo U and of PipersDojo.com
Partnering with Andrew to help put on this workshop is the Las Vegas Pipe Band - an incredible group of dedicated pipers and drummers, led by P/M Andrew Fusco.
This important. The reason why you should want to attend this workshop is that you're sick and tired of the status quo - you know, "working hard" all winter but not achieving the things you really wish would happen when the next season rolls around. Want to get to the next grade level? Finally win the big contest? Get upgraded to the next level? Let's get together and really dig deep into what you actually need to do to get to the next level. Enough beating around the bush!
You know what! See the "terrible two" description above 🙂
