Throwback Thursday: John D. Burgess II

The late, great John D. Burgess (1934–2005) was one of only a handful of pipers to win the rare “double” of both Highland Society of London Gold Medals at the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting in the same year. He is also the the youngest piper to ever win either of those medals, doing so at the ripe old age of 16. He went on from there to be a piping hero to many of today's top players, with an esteemed career as a competitor, performer, and adjudicator. This tune is from his 1969 album release “King of the Highland Pipers.”

Vin Janoski

Vin is a long-time piper based on the east coast of the USA. He has been on the Executive Committee of the EUSPBA and been the editor of the acclaimed Voice magazine. Recently, he has played in the Grade 1 Oran Mor Pipe Band, and the Grade 1 Stuart Highlanders pipe band. He currently produces the websites Pipehacker.com and WhiskyTunes.com.... And, needless to say, he spends way too much time than is allowed for any one person playing, writing about, and thinking about bagpiping.
