Exercises are a good way to improve your embellishments. But basic exercises tend to be monotonous and it’s easy to lose focus. You may also find that something you can play well in an exercise becomes rough once you find it in a tune. An easy way to solve this problem is to find a tune that has a lot of the embellishments you want to practice.

In this piping 101 session, we go past the 16 tunes in the tutor by taking a look at the classic 3/4 retreat march - Castle Dangerous. We introduce a new technical movement as well as listen to a grade one pipe band playing this beautiful tune as an intro to their medley. Enjoy!

In this session we take a look at a popular 3/4 retreat march Castle Dangerous. A strong melody line with some technical turns make up this classic march. Of recent note... Scottish Power's medley opener at the World Pipe Band Championships 2012 (BBC World Pipe Band Championships 2012). A wonderful addition to both solo and band repertoires.
