In this class we start a short review of the three tunes we have covered up to this point: Struan Robertson's Salute, Munro's Salute, and The Lament for the Old Sword. In this class we focus in on the latter and answers many common questions. Donald listens to a few student performances and helps improve some common technique problems.
In this class Donald wraps up Struan Robertson's salute. Donald covers some tricky phrasing, answers some common questions and plays through the tune one last time. This wraps up the first tune in the Introduction to Piobaireachd class.
Class # 3 - In this class Donald continues working with Struan Robertson's Salute. His focus in the class is on the embellishments and building good technique. Using 2 pages of exercises Donald hones in on the basics that build good embellishments. Finally, Donald integrates the embellishments into the tune and wraps up by listening to a few students play sections.
In this second class we continue our work with Struan Robertson's Salute. Donald focuses in on the Taorluath movement including from low g, and then continues on to cover the crunluath. Finally, we spend some time playing the taor-crunluath exercise developed by Donald and Andrew.
Class # 1: In this class we look first at what piobaireachd is, where it came from and what it is today. We learn some basic movements and work through our first beginning Piobaireachd; Struan Robertson's Lament.
