Your Dose of Piping Inspiration

I know of no better way to spend “off time” than to watch/listen to great piping. It keeps me motivated to play, is exciting, and educational.

Regular doses of piping inspiration are a good remedy for whatever’s got you down, frustrated, or miffed.

Here is the full stream video of the recent Uist & Barra competition held at the College of Piping in Glasgow. The Uist & Barra is the official kickoff to the Scottish premier solo piping season. Here, you get to flex your “armchair judge” muscles and develop your listening skills as you hear a variety of great playing, with some of the world’s best pipers against those on the rise. I always enjoy taking the final winners list, then listening through to see what kinds of things the judges might have heard that would place one player over another in each discipline, as well as suss out why other great performances did not make the list.

Finding Piping Inspiration

Vin Janoski Vin is a long-time piper based on the east coast of the USA. He has been on the Executive Committee of the EUSPBA and been the editor of the acclaimed Voice magazine. Recently, he has played in the Grade 1 Oran Mor Pipe Band, and the Grade 1 Stuart Highlanders pipe band. He currently produces the websites Pipehacker.com and WhiskyTunes.com.... And, needless to say, he spends way too much time than is allowed for any one person playing, writing about, and thinking about bagpiping.
