Daily Dose: ALAAAAAAAP ASAP
We're going to use the metronome to really blow this idea of ALAP/ASAP wide open!
ALAP/ASAP - Maximizing Contrast in Dot-Cuts
“ALAP/ASAP” refers to the idea that dot-cut rhythms in bagpipe music should not be played exactly as written on the page, but instead should show maximum contrast in duration. To achieve this maximum contrast, the dotted note should be played “as long as possible” (ALAP), and the cut note should be played “as short as (musically) possible” (ASAP).
Playing ALAP/ASAP consistently is the primary source of “lift” or “expression” in marches, strathspeys, reels, dot-cut horn pipes, and even some slow airs.

Thank you, that is just what I needed to understand and give the lift missing in my music! Although I had been trying to use the ASLAP/ASAP principle, to do it with confidence and consistently makes all the difference.
