Daily Dose: D-Throw Work Out
Strathspeys can offer one of the more challenging D-Throw situations. Check this one out and work on your D-Throws.
Despite their slightly misleading name, gracenotes are not actually notes, but instead should be thought of as “infinitely small articulative events” that separate and/or articulate bagpipe melody notes. When playing a gracenote, a piper should be concerned with two essential “parameters;” the size of the gracenote (infinitely small) and the “synchronization” of that gracenote to the current note-change. As long as these two parameters are in check, your gracenote will sound great. But, if either are out of place, your gracenotes will detract from the music rather than enhance it.
