Daily Dose: If You Can't Beat 'Em, Tachum!

Who doesn't love the sound of tachums in the morning? Let's focus on this embellishment in today's Daily Dose!

Embellishments and Embellishment Steps

Embellishments are rapid-fire groups of melody notes and grace notes that are used on a regular basis in bagpipe music. Embellishments are intended to make bagpipe music unique, complex, and exciting, but they require a great deal of practice and control in order to achieve this.

Each embellishment has a specific set of “steps” that need to be executed accurately (meaning no crossing noises and good grace note quality) AND evenly (each step played the same length; and quickly).
