Description: Ideas shifted profoundly in the last 60 years of music, as many great American composers and thinkers emerged. In addition, there was the competition from pop music, and the development of electronic and recording techniques. We will talk about a number of composers who tackled these issues, including John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Olivier Messaien, Morton Feldman, Steve Reich & Terry Reily.

Matt Griffin (MFA) Matt is a musician and composer from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada now living and working in Toronto. He got his BFA from Simon Fraser University's School for the Contemporary Arts and his MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition to his work with Electricity is Magic, he is the Audio Curator for Chicago's LiveBox Gallery. Matt is our go-to "big picture" guy, for helping us understand where bagpipe fit into the greater world of sound and of music.
